We all know how to play. Sometimes we just forget.

For three days and nights Theatre Works will be transformed into a public playground to celebrate the playfulness in all of us. Pop Up Playground and Theatre Works present This is a Door, a carnival of large-scale games that will bring artful play into the awareness of the mainstream performing arts community in Melbourne.

Social, reactive and immersive, the games will range from cooperative to competitive, physical to strategic and conversational to secretive. This is a Door will put participants in the middle of the action, offering audiences the opportunity to create their own experience.

The work will utilise Game Controllers rather than actors, sourced from independent theatres and gaming communities trained in game play and control, while lighting and props will be carefully placed throughout the space adding to the live art element of the piece.

This is a Door is the first series of work that forms part of Theatre Works’ Selected Works company development program for 2012.
